The largest provider of shared communications infrastructure in the US faced pressure in a high-growth market to obtain and build fiber connections to support wireless customers rolling out 5G services.The client had acquired about $5B in optical fiber businesses in recent years and needed our help to verify and confirm the number, location and condition of its physical assets.
We assembled a project team to inventory existing optical fiber assets, as well as a standalone team to audit the company’s physical optical fiber and wireless equipment against the company’s geographic information system (GIS) software.
We audited the company’s physical assets in two large markets, Chicago and Los Angeles, and reconciled them with the client’s physical records. More than 11 percent of records required correction. We continued working with the client to review its physical assets in other critical markets.
