Home / Corporate Development Buildout Powers M&A Roll‑Up and High‑Value PE Exit
A private equity-backed business services company set out to transform itself into an end-to-end software and services platform through strategic acquisitions. While the ambition was clear, the execution capability was not. The company lacked a dedicated corporate development function to manage the complex lifecycle of M&A—from target evaluation to post-close integration.
As the volume and pace of acquisitions accelerated, the company needed support in identifying suitable targets, managing diligence, coordinating integration efforts, and aligning operational and financial reporting across a rapidly growing organization. Without an effective integration strategy, the platform risked becoming fragmented and losing the synergy benefits its PE sponsor was counting on.
We partnered closely with company leadership and the private equity sponsor to build and execute M&A integration capability across the full cycle. This involved enhancing a corporate development function that served as the strategic engine behind the company’s acquisition efforts. Our team led the evaluation and execution of deals, managing comprehensive due diligence and integration planning efforts that ensured continuity and cohesion across the business.
To provide consistency and scale, we executed an M&A playbook and launched an integration management office. These tools enabled the simultaneous integration of five acquisitions—streamlining systems, aligning business processes and unifying teams under a single operating model. In tandem, we enhanced financial oversight by designing and implementing new board and management reporting systems that tracked both operational performance and integration synergies. We also developed a detailed, bottoms-up fiscal year budget to provide clearer financial visibility and accountability.
In the final stages, we coordinated the financial reporting required for the company’s successful sale to a new financial sponsor.
The company successfully transitioned from a collection of standalone businesses into a cohesive platform capable of delivering integrated software and services. Our efforts not only enabled operational alignment and strategic execution but also positioned the business for a high-value exit. The sale to a new financial sponsor represented a significant multiple expansion for our PE client, underscoring the long-term value generated through disciplined integration and execution.
