Transforming Media Asset Management and Research Operations for a Leading Broadcast News Division

Transforming Media Asset Management and Research Operations for a Leading Broadcast News Division

We partnered with a major broadcast news organization to overhaul their media asset management and digital research operations, delivering enhanced efficiency, reduced costs and expanded content monetization opportunities.

Challenge

A leading national broadcast news division was grappling with rising costs and operational inefficiencies tied to their legacy physical and digital media library management systems. Their internal media archive and information research services needed modernization to support evolving news production needs across multiple locations. Executive leadership recognized the need for an external partner with specialized expertise in digital transformation, library sciences and content strategy to help the company optimize digital workflows and implement archiving best practices—with the goal of enhancing content accessibility and enabling time-sensitive desktop access across the enterprise.

Solution

Through a comprehensive assessment of the end-to-end archive workflow and information support infrastructure, we identified opportunities to streamline daily operations, improve resource management, upgrade tools and technologies, and develop an overarching plan to maximize the content prioritization and digitization strategy.

Concurrently, we led executive-level strategy discussions on digitization, metadata management and content visibility to identify and execute key initiatives, including:

  • Transformed the operation into a dynamic, multifaceted, 24/7, embedded managed service overseeing physical and digital assets, daily digital ingest, cataloging, preservation, and metadata enrichment across multiple bureaus. This overhaul facilitated the robust digital access and circulation of archived content by program and production users.
  • Assumed management of the expert research information support services and launched an enterprise-wide Digital Research Portal, integrating over 30 premium information resources.
  • Implemented a three-year operational plan focused on reducing the physical library footprint, enhancing internal digital asset usage, and creating new digital content and additional monetization streams.

Outcome

Our partnership with the client resulted in substantial cost reductions, greater operational efficiency and improved support for critical news production workflows. Physical storage needs were optimized through proactive migration efforts, while accessibility to digital assets expanded significantly across all news platforms.

In addition, our efforts helped the broadcast news division uncover new cost-saving and monetization opportunities from their vast content archives while enabling desktop access to their robust holdings across the organization. This transformation not only improved day-to-day operations and enhanced the company’s digital infrastructure but also laid the foundation for long-term strategic growth and agility in a rapidly changing media environment.
