The accounts payable (AP) department of a multinational consumer goods manufacturer was operating with limited visibility into performance metrics, hindering its ability to manage team output effectively. AP leaders lacked timely, actionable data to identify daily operational bottlenecks, optimize throughput or assess the overall health of the function.
Without a centralized view of key measures such as invoice status, payment timeliness and outstanding liabilities, the department faced growing risks and inefficiencies. The AP manager needed a way to both measure performance and drive continuous improvement while reducing delays and minimizing financial exposure.
We partnered with the client to design and implement a custom metrics dashboard that delivered real-time insights into the AP operation. This visual reporting tool consolidated key performance indicators (KPIs) and process data into a centralized, easy-to-use format that could be leveraged across the organization.
The dashboard automated data collection for critical KPIs, enabling near real-time updates and reducing the manual effort required to compile performance reports. It provided stakeholders with immediate access to invoice processing timelines, payment status and outstanding liabilities—empowering leaders to act quickly on emerging issues.
With this solution in place, AP stakeholders could track invoice status, payment progress, and outstanding liabilities at a glance. The dashboard also allowed them to pinpoint bottlenecks and identify areas for continuous improvement. To offer a holistic view of performance, the KPIs included a mix of leading indicators (to anticipate potential issues) and lagging indicators (to assess historical outcomes), enabling both proactive and retrospective decision-making.
