Challenge

Our client, a poison control center associated with a prominent medical facility, was operating on an aging, homegrown IT system that had become increasingly unreliable. Like many poison control centers, our client faced chronic underfunding and relied on a fragile infrastructure that was difficult to maintain and upgrade. The existing software was built and maintained by a single individual, creating a significant risk—if that person left or was unavailable, the entire system could be compromised.

In addition, the poison center’s data storage was housed on-premises, and the hospital’s IT team had limited resources to support the system, meaning maintenance was frequently delayed and new features were nearly impossible to implement. Yet the volume and complexity of calls from both the public and healthcare providers were increasing, and the outdated system could not support modern communication methods such as web chat and text messaging.
