A transportation industry client wanted to move its billing function offshore. Leading up to the transition, the company had significant employee turnover, causing an increase in DSO. We provided a project team to help the client clear the billing backlog and reduce DSO by 12 days, improve and document billing processes, and train an offshore team to take over billing responsibilities.

Challenge

A $1.3B industry leader in the helicopter transportation industry relocated and centralized its billing function, which led to high turnover and an increase in days sales outstanding (DSO). The client sought our help to eliminate the billing backlog, improve manual undocumented processes and work with customers to bring accounts back in line with terms. 

Solution

We provided a team of consultants with billing improvement expertise to help the company clear its billing backlog, streamline procedures going forward and train new employees.  We introduced several improvements including the ability to automate and reconcile key business information related to contracts and flight data. In addition, we worked with their tax team to correct sales tax tables and eliminate errors. Finally, we documented and trained new employees, allowing the client to make a smooth transition to an offshore billing team.

Outcome

Our team eliminated the billing backlog and reduced DSO by 12 days through process improvements, even during a period of high turnover.
